Friday Favorites!

Happy Happy Friday kids!
I totally have no idea where this week went! It's sort of a blur. And this certainly has everything to do with Mom Mom passing away. It's never ever something that you can be prepared for. You have to go about your business because thats the way life is...but you're not exactly all there. It's more like a cruise control version of yourself. It's totally a cliche to say "I have no idea where this week went!"...but honestly...today is Friday and I simply do not know how.
So let us just try to cast aside disbelief and embrace the day. In my blogosphere Friday means Favorites. And this particular Friday is pretty darn close to having my Favorite weather. It's perfect hammock temp and it's alternating between sunny and slightly cloudy. I've got the windows open and I'm breathing in the fresh air as if it's on the final clearance rack. Last week we had some unseasonably hot days and nights and it made sleeping almost impossible. But today's temp...it definitely makes my Friday Favorites list. Let's hope it's a trend that sticks!

Ok, so let me share the actual Faves with you! I am loooving them all!!

First up is this so so cute aqua stripey vintage style suitcase...that is in fact a bean bag chair! AHH!! I know! right!? Like tooo cute!! Don't you want it? I so so so want one in my living room! Gosh! I was grinning ear to ear when I came across the the Woouf site! Based in Barcelona, they create the most playful and quirky beanbag furniture! I am loving so many of their pieces!

Including this Marshall style amp! How cool is this? Imagine a stack of them in the tv room? Or many stacks...a whole wall of bean bag amps...a la Spinal Tap!

Next up, this adooorbs mug featuring all of my favorite British sweets, including a Battenburg! I would love waking up to this!

Ohhh goodness...I want to wear this like a necklace! Daily! A Diana mini in gold! It's just so darn cute! The idea of wearing it all day, like a tourist from a 1980's movie...except I won't look like a dweeb. I'll be channelling my fashion muses...Betsey Johnson & Mr. T ...and snapping pics in style!

These are what dreams are made of! A pair of 60's peppermint candy velvet circular chairs. With pink painted tapered wood legs and brass feet. I think my face would be in a constant grin if these flanked my mantel. This era of furniture design hits my sweet spot, and especially with summer approaching. There's a hotel down on the beach in Wildwood, New Jersey...it's called The Caribbean. I always say it's my Happyplace. When I think of being there a calm washes over me.  It's totally outfitted in 1950 thru 60's throwback style. These would fit in perfectly in the Women's Lounge area.

And how about this! Can you even? It is so so me! It would allow me to take my home aesthetic out on the go. (see my previous post featuring mini pianos!) I rarely use a wallet...but this would totally be a game changer! Darling!

........................

I realized after I started gathering my faves for this week that three of them had been from ModCloth! how much do they just plain ol' rule over there?! They've got my number...and hopefully yours! Hope you enjoyed!

Happy Weekend!

Perfect for Spring Lip Glosses!

I shared some fave glosses with you not too long ago, and I'm back with some Perfect for Spring shades! First let me start by saying that I adore my Too Faced, Buxom, Dior, and Nars lip glosses, but I would never shy away from trying a drug store brand just because it is "cheap".

I am a big big fan of NYX, and that doesn't stop at lip gloss. The quality, selection, and packaging of all of their products are incredible for the price.

Mega Shine Lip Gloss by NYX is moisturizing without being too sticky and feels nice on the lips. It comes in a cute 15ml tube, with an angled doe foot applicator. It has a very sweet cherry scent to it, but you don't notice it when it's on your lips. It seems to last about 4 hours before needing to be reapplied. I really really love it! These three so so pretty shades are just perfect for Spring...and Summer! I think they'd work with all complexions!

I'd almost call it clear with a subtle shimmer. It just takes your natural lip color and makes it into the perfect pink lip. Splendid over your favorite lipstick too!

semi sheer medium pink with a hint of lilac, and no shimmer.  It appears quite bright in the tube, but in fact is totally wearable, and just plain ol' pretty!

A perfect sheer milky baby pink with subtle shimmer!  I really think this one would work with all skin tones & complexions. Love it!

It is safe to say that I will be purchasing all three of these again as soon as I start running low! Totally adore them! And I will be trying (and sharing) a few more shades very soon!

Do you use NYX products? What are your faves?

flowers, family, and a farewell

Yesterday we joined together with family and friends for the funeral of Aaron's grandmother...aka "Mom Mom". Funerals are a time to say our goodbyes and also for gathering the people who all shared a common love for the departed. Getting together with loved ones is definitely something that doesn't happen often enough. I know for sure that Mom Mom would've loved being at the restaurant following the funeral. A room full of her favorite people. At first the notion of her missing this "party" is maybe a little sad, bittersweet. But why not just look at the brighter side? Mom Mom brought us all together. There are cousins, distant cousins, aunts, uncles, great aunts and great uncles...and a whole variety of relations that stem from there.
And then you can just focus on one little detail...which actually is a huge detail...there is a whole extension of family that exists because of Mom Mom giving birth to Aar's Mom. There's Aaron and his two brothers...and Aar's older brother is married with two kids...the Great grandkids...and they are awesome little tots!

Aaron's grandfather...aka "Pop Pop"...passed about 18 years ago. (about a year after me and Aar became a couple) And this big gathering of people each played their own roles in making sure that Mom Mom didn't spend the past 18 years alone.
I loved to spend time with Mom Mom. She had a great dry sense of humor and whenever she told stories from when she was a little girl she would use hilarious out-of-date terminology...like say there was a creepy guy hangin around the old neighborhood...he was known as a "fox in the bush"! Me and Aar always drove her home on holidays and definitely kept her up way past her bedtime. Probably talking about the show Lost...of which, we were all big fans.

I can't stand to see flowers go to waste. At the funeral there were some amazing arrangements and we brought one home. I caught some great pics of them while they're still vibrant and full.
I totally counted Mom Mom as my Grandma and I'm glad to say that she made my life more vibrant and full. I'll miss her so much.
xo, Jenny

I'm a mixed media collage artist that loves everything vintage.  I went to art school, owned a brick and mortar store and now I enjoy the freedom of selling on line.  I use old photos, fabric, etc. in my art.  I live in an old house in Irvington, Indiana just a stones throw from downtown Indy with my nerdy husband and our little basset hound.  Vintage mixed with new and handmade makes for a warm and interesting home.

Hey guys, my name is Kelsi! I am a professional hairstylist living in Seattle, Washington. Color is my addiction. I am an unemployed Interior Designer, and everything I do is influenced by my flair for design. I love to create unique things, so it is rare you will see a carbon copy of anything on my site. If you see something you love, you better snap it up, because unless it's a basic item, you'll never see it again quite the same way.

She sees her work as a treasure hunt that takes her deep into the mountains of the south, the global markets abroad, antique malls and thrift stores. She unveils and brings back to life items lost in bins, forgotten in attics, and abandoned in garages. Born 1982 in Chapin, SC into a family of collectors, Hollie’s aesthetic springs from a modest and thrifty childhood. She counts her resourcefulness as an  integral element of her craft. Her ability to expose the stories behind everyday items, and change our perspective of their worth is her gift.

I became a Dove Chocolate Discoveries Chocolatier because I wanted to have the title of chocolatier and had intensions of buying delicious high quality chocolate at a great price to share with people attending my scrapbooking events. But once I started to share the excitement of my new found title, my recruiting surpassed anything I had ever done with other direct sales companies. Best of all...a career found me! Next thing I knew I was on a chocolate roller coaster enjoying the best ride of my life. Even my seven-year old cannot wait to be old enough to become a chocolatier! Dove Chocolate Discoveries has now helpied my family accomplish our dream of moving across the country and having a more traditional lifestyle.

I started the Neck Tie Reformatory after years of accessory making. I never wanted to make something that had already been done. I always looked for ways to make women stand out until I realized that the men needed some individualism too. My life now revolves around neckties in a big way! I contact everybody about my neckties! From local celebs to hardcore celebs! I don't hold back when it comes to my designs. I do what feels right, looks right and make sure they are made right. Men around the world deserve a good necktie that says a lot about who they are and I can make that for you!

Hi! I'm Marilyn and my blog is Pulp Sushi. I live in the Hudson Valley region just north of NYC with my boyfriend. I work in HR but my goal is to creatively work for myself.  My blog shares shop updates, crafty tutorials, reviews, and my own stories about growing a business, and still being a city girl at heart. I'm unapologetically addicted to coffee, desserts, music & dresses.

Above all, I'm a mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister and daughter. I am a self taught artist.
My favorite medium is porcelain painting, but I also dabble a bit with acrylics, oils and watrcolors. Roses and birds are my favorite subjects to paint and I rarely venture very far away from them.

My name is Laura McHugh and I love sharing my art, passions and creations on my blog Vintage2glam.blogspot.com.  Vintage2Glam is my idea of reusing colorful vintage finds, salvaging items most would consider old or used and turning them into something Glam. I Love recycling the past and incorporating these items into my own vintage inspired accessories and artwork with a modern twist.

Make Your Own:: Pink Grapefruit Sugar Lip Scrub

Hey dolls!
I'm very excited to share this yummy scrub recipe from one of my fabulous sponsors.
Colleen is the gal behind Paisley Boulevard...a super fun blog with plenty of diy beauty. I always love Colleen's content, but it's her honest, personal, and engaging writing style that makes Paisley Boulevard a mandatory destination on my drive through blogland.

This mixture amps up the moisture for your lips with vitamin E and the grapefruit not only adds sweet flavor, but an extra element of exfoliation as well. If your mix gets a little too juicy, scoop the scrub into a paper towel and kinda wring it out a bit. Add the vitamin e last, use a sharp knife or pin to get the goods out of the cap. Make sure your grapefruit juice is from an actual grapefruit and not out of a carton of pink grapefruit juice cocktail or some other whatnot.

This scrub keeps nicely for a week in the fridge. Use it every day for a baby soft and icky peely-skin free pucker!

A big thanks to Colleen! I'll be whipping up a batch asap!
Thanks for popping in!

Meet our Feature Sponsor for April...Miss Atomic!

Hey sweetpeas!
I've been meaning to thank and welcome all of my new readers and followers. It is so so lovely to see your sweet lil faces showing up in GFC and on hellocotton. And I adore reading each and every comment. :)

I couldn't be more thrilled about sharing the work, talent, and style of my wonderful sponsors! I hope you (my dear readers) have taken some time to visit and exlore!

Without furthur ado, I am super excited to introduce our Feature Sponsor for April...Miss Atomic Jewelry!

What is your name and where are you from? Age range... ?
Renee Kowalsky - I am 38... I am never shy about telling my age. I think we should all be proud of our age! Plus, I look younger... haha!

What do you do? When did you start?
I am the owner, designer, jewelry maker, do everything gal at Miss Atomic Jewelry. I started Miss Atomic Jewelry just about a year ago. I had been out of work for over a year and during that time I had tried to find the perfect new career! I started with an Etsy shop and tried selling everything from vintage items to various sewn goodies and jewelry. I have always loved making jewelry and that is the product that eventually stuck! I started an Etsy shop and then my own website. Fab.com found me and has featured my jewelry in their sales many times now. I finally feel like my "hobby" is a career! It is really exciting to be doing something I love!

I named Miss Atomic after a Las Vegas icon. Lee Merlin was "Miss Atomic Bomb" in 1957... She has always been my favorite pin up... even before I moved to Sin City :)

What/Who are you inspired by?
I often say that I am inspired by vintage jewelry and rock and roll! I am not really a girly girl... I have always had a bit of an edgy style, but I love jewelry. I have collected vintage jewelry for years. I often wear jeans, band t-shirts, and super girly 1950's costume jewelry.  I love the juxtaposition of the rock and roll style and super girly jewelry.

I have always had a special love for cameos. There is something so simple and special about them. I loved the idea of taking this traditional heirloom and making something fun and modern. Miss Atomic cameos are not your grandma's cameos!

I am also really inspired by great art. Some of the first jewelry I ever made featured gorgeous portraits of Blythe Dolls by my dear friend (and AMAZING artist), Emma Mount. Emma was generous enough to let me play with her paintings and she helped me launch Miss Atomic Jewelry!

Where do you create? home studio? kitchen table? sofa?
I create all of my goodies at my kitchen table! It is an adorable 1950's chrome and turquoise dinette. This table has been with me for about 15 years and has moved all over the country with me. I had set up a workstation in a spare bedroom upstairs, but I kept bringing everything downstairs to sit at my favorite table. It is great because I can work anytime and still spend time with my husband. It is a little unconventional though! Next to my table I have a pegboard mounted under my kitchen counter to hang my finished jewelry on and bookshelves full of supplies around the living room :)

If you could see your jewelry on one celeb who would it be? why?
I am sure most people would find this a little odd, but I want to see one of my necklaces on Steven Tyler! I would love to send him something. I love his quirky sense of style. He often wears an amazing necklace featuring art by one of my favorite artists, Mark Ryden. I love men who have the confidence and style to wear jewelry... especially pieces that are not meant for men. I think he would look awesome in some of my cameos!

Do you collect anything?
Oh, I collect WAY too many things! I already mentioned my collection of vintage jewelry, but some of my more extensive collections would be contemporary, low-brow art; vintage kitchen wares (especially Hazel Atlas, Anchor Hocking, and Fire King); and I have an extensive menagerie of odd little vintage ceramic and porcelain creatures.

This "Miss Atomic" bowling pin painted by Kirsten Easthope...is one of my prized possessions! I commissioned it as a present for myself after my first Fab.com sale... it was my way of making this biz official :) And, she is gorgeous!

Any pets?
We currently do not have any pets. We recently lost our fat cat, Henry. She (yes, she was a girl named Henry) was the little furry love of my life for over 15 years. We had an amazing life together! I love all animals and I am sure that someday soon I will add another furry baby to our family!

Favorite places you have traveled to?
I love to travel! We just got back from a trip to New Orleans, which is possibly my favorite city in the world! The people are so nice and welcoming, the food is AMAZING, the music is legendary, and the feel of the city is inspiring. I always come home feeling more alive and just plain happy! New Orleans might be my favorite city, but my favorite vacation was when I took my Mom to Italy a few years ago. Everyone should experience Italy at least once... It is a magical place! My Mom had always wanted to go and it was a very proud moment for me when I was able to give her this gift. It was also the only trip we ever took together and it was incredible to be able to spend so much time together exploring a beautiful country.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I have big dreams! I would like to open a gallery/retail shop here in Las Vegas. Some place where I can sell Miss Atomic Jewelry and showcase other amazing items handmade in Vegas. We have an amazing arts scene here and so many creative people making all sorts of goodies! Of course, my shop would also have to have lots of vintage goodies for sale and I would have to have some gallery wall space for swanky art shows! I need a place that feels like home with all my loves in one place... It may sound like a lot for one place, but I think Vegas would love it!

Three favorite websites/blogs/shops...etc?

Of course I love Everyday is a Holiday! Your blog is lovely and inspirational! I love the colors and personality you paint your blog with, and of course I adore all of your art and goodies!
(Thank you SO much Renee!! Geeez!)

Here are a few more of my favorites....

Emma Mount is an amazing artist and a lovely gal! Everyone should check out her art and Etsy shop...

One of my muses is Femme Metale Jewelry... this is my rock and roll side!

And, the website I probably visit most often is... Joy of Baking.
I love to bake almost more than I love to make jewelry. This website is amazing! It is perfect for beginners or experts! I always learn something new.

.......................

A great big thanks to Renee for such a fab interview... and thanks to all of you for reading about this super talented sweet gal.

Renee is offering 25% off  to Everyday is a Holiday readers! Just use code : HOLIDAY

So awesome of Renee to offer this sale... I really do adore her and her work! I vow to visit her in person once me and Aaron make our way out to Sin City! I'll be back here real soon to shine the spotlight on the rest of my lovely sponsors! See you then!
