Friday Favorites

It's Friday! That means I've got some Friday Favorites for you...

Ahhh! I could just faint. This sweet sweet little locker on wheels will be coming to IKEA in February! I'm willing to bet it will be as popular as the Raskog cart that has been alllll over Instagram and blogs...and yes we own one as well! :)

I'm really really loving these clogs! They are so so not in my budget..but always fun to mentally play dress up! And there's something about these that's even inspiring some home decor ideas I have right now.

Saw this pink "pastel power ring" pop up today on Hello Holiday's Instagram and knew I had to have it! So simple and sweet. I feel like if you're wearing this ring you must also be holding a macaron from Laduree.

When I first came across World Market via pinterest I was so excited! So many fantastic items! Furniture, kitchen decor, and organization, pillows etc...  This cookie tin is just beeeyond up my alley! I so wish we had a World Market location near us!

Another super adorable vintage inspired piece that I'd love! This cake carrier would look adorable in our newly renovated kitchen and I know I'd also get plenty of practical use out of it being a cake baking enthusiast! I'm hoping that we'll come across a World Market location one day when we're on the road at an art retreat. I'm pretty sure I'll go nuts.

Ahh!! I finally got myself a wallet! yes I know it sounds a bit cuckoo...but I just haven't had one in about 12 years! I seriously just use the inside zipper pocket of my purses. I had been holding out for something super cute and I was beyond excited to find this one! And here you see it next to my new Ipad case!! Eeee! Yes you are right...the Ipad case was indeed a Friday Favorite a little while ago! :) But I had to bring it up again to show that at least sometimes I treat myself to a favorite thing. It is perfection!

I'm certainly a hat girl in the winter, and I just adore both of these from nessavendettaknits on etsy. Love how chunky and cartoon like they are. And even though I'm gaga for color I seem to mainly stay close to a pretty neutral and classic palette when it comes to everyday fashion.

Hooray for Friday! It's not just good for Friday Favorites...it also means that there's a new episode of Portlandia on tonight!!

What do you guys have planned? We're just trying to stay busy and warm.
No matter what you do have a great weekend!!

a little post Hurricane Sandy update

We've been hard at work on a production line of hand painted signs all morning. Aaron's dad was here again lending his expertise in home repair to our ailing studio. Later in the afternoon me and Aaron decided to take advantage of some rare sunshine with a little walk around town. We've been wanting to check in on some houses that we had seen in the days immediately following Hurricane Sandy. Many neighborhoods in our town were devastated but very close by to us there is a street that runs right along the beach and there was a cluster of homes that really took the brunt of the tidal surge. We were curious as to what sort of progress had been made. So in our reconnaissance we found that some homes were on the mend, like the adorably bright bungalows you see in the pic above...they are mere steps from the beach but they are flying their flags and Christmas wreaths adorn the front doors. And on the less hopeful side most homes bear a big red sticker that states that they are uninhabitable. The 5 foot high water line still remains on most of these homes and we can only guess that they are destined to be torn down altogether.

Like these ones which we snapped some pics of right after the storm. Well today we returned and we were shocked to find them still standing. There is a row of about seven of them and they are all pretty much floating on top of moats of displaced bay water.

We peeked inside and it's so bizarre to see everything still there, as if the storm happened yesterday. It's so apparent that the residents had to escape at the very last minute.

Seeing food items sitting on the counter top and yet the walls are completely ripped off. There's something so eery about it. And it brings back bad memories of the extended blackout that followed the storm.

So you might be thinking...where are all these people who have lost their homes? One answer is: in hotel rooms. Yes...think about it...the storm was prior to Halloween...and since then people have been living in hotel rooms. Some nearby...some very far away. And pretty soon their hotel privileges will come to a close...within the week in fact. Maybe most people have found new places to live...but who knows? And it being the dead of winter makes it all the more unnerving. We really hope to see some major renewal come springtime.

And once again...I want to thank all of you who contributed to our Sandy recovery. You are unbelievable! Me and Aaron are lucky to have you and we know that we're lucky in general...our home could've looked like any one of these if the surge shifted a bit.

Ok, back to work...gotta do what we're best at...making pretty things. That'll have to be enough for now.
xo, Jenny

today...

Holy crow man I never thought that day 5 of this cold would be the worst. I have mounds and mounds of tissues all around me. Tons of coughing, sniffling, and lots of sneezing. Aaron just said that he thought the sneezing was normally indicative of the beginning of a cold and that he was sneezing when we went to IKEA...which was at the beginning of his cold. Mind you, this is just armchair science. But if that is the case...is it possible that I have caught another cold? You'd think that since I have the energy to blog right now that I'd have the energy to google the stages of a cold and the whole sneezing bit...nope.

Anyways...we woke today to rain rain rain...and gray gray gray. And it's quite chilly. We decided to work from home today instead of our makeshift studio over at Aaron's parent's house. Amid the total chaos we set up all of our supplies in our living room and we are sitting on the edge of our couch, hunched over palettes and hand painted signs, with a space heater blowing on us. Party. Of course our surround sound hasn't worked right since the place flooded...so as Aaron puts it...we are listening to The Strokes all day via the laptop...which sounds like a "tin can". Things could be worse.

We are working production line style on a bunch of sign orders. Cookies & EAT are collector faves! And we couldn't be happier. They are really fab pieces. Beyond thrilled to be sending them out to their new homes!

The place is a total wreck! But we are still moving forward! Aaron's Dad came by today to help with some things in the studio. Some taping and spackling and floor leveling. We are so so thankful! All that we have left is new trim, painting, hanging our light, and then it is move in time!! I am beeeyond excited to get in there and hang shelves and organize and get it all set up.

What about you guys? What are you up to?

Thanks for popping in and checking on us! :)
xo Jenny...and Aaron!

lots of sickies

I honestly don't even know how my brain is telling my fingers to type this right now. I'm an absolute zombie right now. My brother Walt just got over Bronchitis, and Aaron has had a nasty cold for about a week. Now we are coughing and aching together. Aaron's Dad has begun to cough, his Mom is feeling feverish, and his brother has the flu. It is hard to turn on the news without hearing New York referred to as Flu York right now. Ugh...just ugh.

Jeez, I had big plans for the weekend and they just got thrown out the window. Just when I told myself and you guys that I will not be limiting myself to taking only instagram photos...here I am, with only Instagram photos.  I was hoping to take a walk through town with my camera and take some pics of the rebuilding progress. To give you guys some updates on destruction spots I had shared in the days after the storm. I've been wondering what some of those homes look like now. Aaron and I both think that a few must have been torn down altogether. Especially the beach front homes with nearly every wall missing...you could look inside and see the whole layout, just like dollhouses.

Oh, so last night the above photo received a few comments on Instagram. People asking where on earth I found Theraflu, which made me laugh...because knowing me...and my medicine cabinet...I expected to flip the box over and see some crazy old expiration date. But no, I was safe...I have till November of next year. But I bet I purchased it a while ago. So I googled to see what the issue was...and yep... it was discontinued for a while due to plant issues...rumors of it being made in china...and rumors of it being used to cook Meth.  Interesting!  I also heard from a friend on facebook that it gave her and her son vivid nightmares! We took some last night and it seemed to help with headache and body aches for a bit ...and no nightmares to report.

You'd swear these two guys were mimicking Aaron and I...well no.... I only wish this was how peaceful I looked and felt while sleeping. At present it is that constant annoying tickling cough thing that keeps me up, and with lots of tossing and turning...Just yuck.

On a lighter, happier, more fun note....

We just listed some Valentine's Day goodies in the shop! Our classic Valentine's cupcakes and this vintage Valentine inspired painting above! It's listed now as a print and we'll be adding some mini plaques this week! If you'd like to pick something up for you or your sweetie you can still use the XONEWJERSEY code for 20% off!!

Well, my friends, I am off to pop some zinc, with a Emergen-C chaser!

Hope you and yours are sniffle and cough free!
Love from the NJ Shore!

I'm a boot girl and a platform shoe girl and a combination of both girl. But my day to day running around, working in the studio, or hanging out shoezies of choice are good ol' chucks. And I would love love love some grey ones! These polka dot cuties will add some fun to any outfit!

and this pair in light grey totally works for me as well...

And while I'm at it...the same goes for this charcoal gray pair! I honestly wouldn't mind owning all three pair! Of course it won't happen...and of course I'm dashing my hopes within a sentence of even mentioning them. My middle name is frugal. Yes, I know you already know. ;)

I LOVE these lanterns! Such a great look! And they are an easy to DIY! I'd love to make some for the living room!
Made from decorative aluminum sheets that you can find in the building materials aisle of Home Depot. For years me and Aaron have been constructing pretty things out of less than pretty materials and these look right up our alley. These require metal snips, wire, some cylinder shapes...like soup cans...and some spray paint to finish them with.  Just add candles!

Homemade Moon Pies!!! Ahh! yeah...enough said.

Yep...black and cream stripes. Old habits die hard. I love this bag. I may have blogged a very similar one a while ago that I found on etsy. You can always find a bag like this on my wish list. It's totally a signature Jenny bag. Oh man, I would use the heck out of it.

So guys...I really just want you to know that I am so happy to be feeling a bit more normal. And I am so excited about what we have to look forward to over the coming months. I don't mean to sound like a broken record...but gosh, coming off of Stupidstorm Sandy and such a couple of life altering months makes me really appreciate any bits of sunshine or hints of promise. The little things are magnified.  And I know I'm just overly emotional from everything but really really...thanks for being here! And thanks for your comments and for being a part of all this stuff we have here in blogland.

Have a fabulous weekend my friends!

I work from the comfort of my own home eversince I had my daughter in 2003 and nine years later (with two boys added under my wings), I can't imagine having it any other way! When I was little, I found true love in fairytales and grew up in a whimsical world, the two things that inspire my art the most. I love the simplest things in life and if I had my way, I would spend hours sitting under a tree just dreaming my day away with a sketchbook and a pencil in hand.  My ultimate dream is to touch people with my art and to know that the messages I put in them are carried across into their hearts.

For me, being an artist and blogger is about sharing. I absolutely treasure the friendships that I make every day through this blog and my chosen profession and I try to show my gratitude by sharing any morsels of beauty, fun, and knowledge that happen to blip across my radar. So it thrills me to be able to share these interesting, talented, creative, stylish, and downright nice folks with you! It has been a rough couple of months for us due to the storm and it's aftermath, but these sweetheart sponsors stuck by us through the darkness.
I am so happy to be back in the swing of things. To be blogging in every sense of the term. Meaning that not only am I posting on a more frequent schedule...I'm also back to regularly reading my fave blogs. Even with my home turned upside down, it was utterly necessary for me to find the time for blogging.
So a post like this one is very meaningful to me right now. The blog world and these little networks of fab online shops and communities of creative souls have always been there for me...even when...especially when...my tangible world was ravaged by mother nature. Bringing you these shops and blogs is so important to what Everyday is a Holiday is all about. I think you'll really enjoy getting to know these fab peeps...and I can see you all possibly becoming fast friends. I hope you'll find yourself purchasing something fabulous for yourself or a friend. And as was the case in past months, I'm tickled with what a fantastic mix has been collected here. Something for everyone! So many different types read Everyday is a Holiday...this is an opportunity to connect the dots.

I have some changes coming soon to my sponsorship program that I am excited about. More about that in the very near future.

In the end, this post is dedicated to the talented and interesting...my readers.

Thank you so much for popping in and reading. It is an honor to be able to share.
And a very big thank you to my lovely lovely sponsors!

a little IKEA trip

Oh my gosh today was so much fun! It had been so long since our last visit to IKEA. In the meantime I had been circling things in the catalog and pinning on pinterest. And today I finally got to go see all this fabulous stuff in person. Today's crew was Walt's girlfriend Val, me, and Aaron.
Do you see this amazing "scary lady" pillow?! Yes that is what we call cabinet card ladies. The name came about because our fave one had such an unpleasant expression...and then we came to realize that most of them are sorta scary.

Some of you may remember our huge Scary Lady portrait (the gal who coined the nickname) that we had hanging in our bedroom at our last apartment. Since moving to our current home she has been in storage upstairs. But as soon as the house is back to normal she'll be hanging in a place of importance. I found the cabinet card lady pillow a bit out of character for IKEA. But I'm thrilled that they strayed from their comfort zone. I feel in love with it when I saw it on their website...and as soon as I saw it in person knew I had to have it!

I cannot wait to get the kitchen done. I know that I said that the most important room is the studio. But the kitchen is the room that I like to decorate most. And once again, Ikea simply dazzled me with this offering of ceramic glasses. We bought them in ice cream shades: pink, cream, and pale mocha. And some adorable pink dish towels as well.

I just love the look of these glasses all lined up!

We also grabbed some pink and gray napkins. And as for that black and cream striped throw... I ended up putting it back...for now. I know I'll end up grabbing it the next time we hit Ikea...which will be soon.

For our studio light fixture we picked up one of these large Foto pendants. It looks black here but it's more of a dark gray. Love it!

I didn't come home with any of these this time around but I know I'll be grabbing a few next time. They are so summery! So vintage beach house! When Aaron and I had an antique booth years ago we'd come across the vintage version of these all the time!

And of course no visit to Ikea is complete without sitting down to eat some Swedish meatballs and cutesy cakes!

The adorable little pink cakes are even better than they look! Hard to believe but true. They are delicate little fluff balls filled with a sweetened whipped cream, a bit of raspberry jam and golden yellow cake. So so yummy! I bet they have bags of them for sale in the little to-go food department by the check out...but I didn't look. I'd love them for a tea party!

Gosh, it was such a fun time. A much needed break from the crazy work going on around here. In Jersey our Ikea is located right next to Newark International airport and there is pretty much nothing but oil refineries and smokestacks for as far as the eye can see. This is the little sliver of a region that Jersey is famous for, even though the majority of the state is so picturesque. Admittedly, the refineries, smokestacks, and roaring jets may not be pleasant...but we oddly enjoy looking at the spectacle of it all from time to time. And then we get out of the car, stroll into Ikea and get to look at all the fabulous stuff you see above. Contrast is necessary in the well examined life.

Not a bad way to start off the week! So thrilled to have some happy, pretty things to brighten up our "work in progress" home. Tomorrow it is back to the grind. Filling orders, working on the studio walls and some other things.

Hope your week is off to a great start! And if you have an IKEA near you...don't walk...run!! So  many cuuuute things!!
