Ok if this tablescape doesn't sing Spring I don't know what does! Oh I just adore everything about it! Especially the bright pops of Springy, candy pastels set against the rustic wood. I want to be at that table...well, with one minor adjustment...it needs to be extended by about a dozen or more place settings so that I can have all of my favorite artsy crafty blogland friends over for an afternoon of yummy food, crafting, art journaling, and sweets!

Yes Yes...I know I know...You feel like you've seen this here on my blog before. It's very Wednesday Addams, which I suppose is my go-to, old stand by, trademark. The classic black with white peter pan collar. It's simply perfect to me...could be my uniform.
But this time...it's no dress. This is that classic look in tee shirt form!
Now we just need to add a fab bouquet of balloons in pink, gold, and black & white polka dot. Yes?!

This really is the dream purse of my 7 year old self. I would have went nutso over this.
Totally random...but I have memories of a small round purse like this one, only mine was lavender. I carried it everywhere. I was obsessed with unicorns at the time (1980s). I went to a yard sale and found a little ceramic unicorn figurine. As we went about the rest of our day you better believe that there was no way I'd leave my new treasure behind in the car. Of course I kept it nestled in my fave lavender purse. And of course the unicorn's fate was sealed in this decision. Later that day while going up the stairs into a German restaurant...most likely spazzing out and singing and purse twirling all at once...the whirling purse went "Crack!" against one of the steps...and the poor shattered unicorn never even made it to it's rightful place on my dresser top.

This pup! If this adorbs mooshball was in the next room I'd have a very very hard time working...or doing anything but napping along side him. He has perfected the meaning of contentedness. And those shabby chic sheets are the perfect backdrop.

I love love love this tutorial for paper Chrysanthemums. They are one of my absolute favorite flowers. And I could get lost in paper crafty fun all day. And flowers like this are Forever. Perfect as gifts for a baby shower or wedding!

I'm not normally an iridescent gal but I am loving this look. Creamy and dreamy. This technique is called "jelly sandwich" nails. Laying down a coat of sheer pink, then applying the glitter, and then topping with another coat of the sheer pink gel...a jelly sandwich! What a pretty look.

Thanks for stopping by for Friday Favorites again. It's been a busy week and it's not over til our heads hit the pillow tonight. But it's good busy...so I'm happy for that!
Hope you're keeping good busy too!
xo, Jenny

Happy Pi Day!

It's National Pi Day! What is National Pi Day you ask? Pi Day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). We observe Pi Day on March 14th being that it's 3.14...the abbreviated form of π. In 2009, the United States House of Representatives supported the designation of Pi Day.

The earliest known large-scale celebration of Pi Day was organized by physicist Larry Shaw in 1988 at the San Francisco Exploratorium, where he and the staff marched in circles and they capped of the party with a whole bunch of delicious pies. Ya know, cause pies are circles and π is a mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. In my artist brain that translates to bee boo bop boo bee boo bop beep.

The town of Princeton, New Jersey hosts numerous events in a combined celebration of Pi Day and Albert Einstein's birthday, which is also March 14. Einstein lived in Princeton for more than twenty years while working at the Institute for Advanced Study. In addition to pie eating and recitation contests, there is an annual Einstein look-alike contest.

And speaking of Princeton, New Jersey...fellow Jersey girl blogger Kate of Scathingly Brilliant... blogged about her Pi Day 2011 celebration here.  And how cool is it that our Pie a la mode print is a part of her delightful studio decor!?

I know it's been a bit quiet here on the blog...but we are deep in some reeeally exciting top secret stuff that we can't wait to share with you! It's got us busy busy busy.

So...go have some Pie today...or do some math...figure out your taxes...no, forget I said that.
cheers! xo, Jenny

Around here...

Hey there! We sprung forward today! Ah! Lost an hour of sleep but gained sunshine...so I am ALL for that! Yes Yes Yes! More Sunshine! Who's wit me?

We've been enjoying our new creative space immensely. Busy busy bees these days. We have a bunch of really fantastic projects on our plate right now.  My brain is spinning actually. But it is all really awesome stuff and I couldn't be more grateful for it all. This stuff makes my heart beat.

So we've been moving things around, adding, and tweaking... this is one of my absolute favorite vintage baby heads. I'm thinking I need to put a small spool of twine inside and have him spit it to me while wrapping orders!

Bunnies bunnies everywhere! Yep!

This guy is such a hard worker! Been pulling his weight since the 1940's or so! ;)

Oooh and our knobs from Anthropologie arrived the other day! They are perfecto on this cupboard! Totally balance the cream sheet music scallop border up top!

Annnnd guess what we are working on?! Another 100% hand painted paper pack! Yep! Ohhh we are sooo excited! There's more to be done to these patterns...lots of details and shading, but soon soon! Cannot wait to see them in your art journals, scrapbooks, and projects!! :)

Some happy mail! Cannot wait to play with the Color Shine from Heidi Swapp!

Had to share this pic of Aaron lost on the Interwebbbs! This is pretty much my view every morning.

Oh and this little nut can be found like this all day and night! What a moosh!

How about you guys? What's new with you?! Hope you are enjoying your weekend! The Walking Dead is on tonight!! YESSS!!

See ya soon!
xo Jenny...oh and Aaron says hi!

Friday Favorites

It's Friday again! Time flies when you're busy I guess. We've been working away in the new studio and I swear...what a difference it makes when you have your own little zen spot for making art. Aaron calls it his Clean, Well-Lighted Place...after the Hemingway story of course.
So yes, speaking of the new studio...I can't thank you guys enough for all the compliments! The pos feedback really means so much to us. We put a good deal of heart into it and getting a great response from our peers feels really good. Can't wait to create more and more art in our fab new space!

Ok...now for the Friday Favorites...starting with the above...

I could totally live with this fabulous piece by Rupart Blanchard.  It's part of a collection made with old packing crates. There are super fab tables and chairs as well...go see!

This LENA star lamp is entirely handmade out of reclaimed wood. I'm loving the juxtaposition of the natural wood with the glitzy movie star lights. And this star and their other products are made using eco-friendly processes.

This bag...excuse me... Satchel, is just fabulous! I think I'd feel as if I have assignments due if I wore it.  And I do have assignments due...plenty...so I guess I'm worthy. And of course it reminds me of...

Madeleines! Oh my goodness gracious. Have you ever tasted a fresh, warm, buttery and sweet, homemade madeleine? If not, then you've got some good times ahead of you!
And there are so so many variations of this classic. I purchased a madeleine pan a little over ten years ago and was crazy for them for a while. You know, typical Jenny...getting up during a commercial break and ending up in the kitchen buttering the pan, and gathering ingredients. I even made some rosewater madeleines once. I remember that when I was deep in my madeleine kick we went to see the movie The Transporter...and the chick who he had in the trunk of the car baked him a a batch of them for breakfast...I got a kick out of that.
After a while I think my habit moved on to baby bundts and mini cakes, but this book looks amaaazing and I think I'll be digging out my pan for a bit of sweet reminiscing.

This piece by Artist Jenny Elkins is just fantastic! As are all of her works of art. If you aren't familiar with her art prepare to be absolutely dazzled when you click through her collections. I love so so much about her work...and she does so much of it! Down right spoils us with her creativity. You can find links to her two Etsy shops right in my sidebar!

And lastly is this awesome video of the great Ed Hardy painting in his studio. A rare up-close glimpse of a legend at work. Watching his fluid brush strokes and the way he pretty much attacks the canvas is so inspiring. There's a palpable confidence that comes across in his process. It's not often that the subject matter in a painting is so enmeshed within the spirit in which it was rendered.
And I'm so proud to say that this video was made by a very close friend of ours...Michael Evans. He spent an afternoon in the studio with Mr. Hardy and caught a bit of his lightning in a bottle. Mike's camera work and editing skills are Amazing...and I think his being an obsessive artist in his own right enables him to capture what the untrained eye would never see.

Ok, hope you loved my Friday Faves! Have a fab weekend!

A little tour of the New Studio

Holy Crow guys!  For any of you who have been following since Hurricane Sandy, you know that we here on the Jersey Shore were hit hard. And our little area especially...both where we work and play.   Our home was a mess, but still standing, and thankfully not compromised enough to warrant an official red sticker that says 'uninhabitable'. Our outcome was not the same as many of the homes right near us. They are gone for good...whole neighborhoods waiting for the wrecking ball. So although we lost a bunch of treasures and have lots of home repairs left to do, we are lucky.
Sandy's ripple effect is long lasting. For months we worked from Aaron's parent's house...our make shift studio was their dining room table and we were crowding their living room with boxes. We had the greatest customers, friends, collectors, and blog readers from all over the country cheering us on the whole time. And these peeps also sent tremendous support to our community by sending boxes and boxes and boxes of the most needed supplies. We couldn't be more thankful for that!
Wow, those months are a blur now. As time progressed families needs changed. The demand for cleaning supplies, hygiene products, and clothing transitioned into the need for building materials. And the same went for us. Floors had to be ripped up and replaced...lots of painting, and plenty of insulating against the harsh winter. We've got a ways to go and we've been checking items off our very long list. The first and most exciting of these is the finishing of our home studio. Without a place to work and create we are nothing. Now I'm thrilled to say that we are back in the studio in a big way...a re-do from top to bottom.

This fantastic piece is exactly what we were looking for. That old general store type of feel. We had seen a few over the years in antique shops and at flea markets but the price tags were always pretty bananas. We were so psyched to find this one at Urban Outfitters! It has a great weathered look that feels authentic...as if it's it's constructed from old pine crates. I've been a huge fan of cubby holes forevs'.

Oh and you see that little wire rack in the corner of the photo...we found that at the oh so fabulous World Market! Perfect for storing our glitter!

Bunnies! My prized collection of vintage paper mache rabbit candy containers. I've been collecting them for over 18 yrs or so. And this is not all of them...but it's all I could fit in the space. I always have them close by when creating. Even when they're not finding their way directly into our artwork, you better believe that their magical essence has an influence over everything.

Somebunny thinks he's fancy! ;)

And you may remember this cupboard from last year! Aaron found it put out to the curb around the block and dragged it home. It had been waiting for a new life...it even survived Sandy! It needed minimal work...we painted it a matte black, distressed it, and added a grey/brown wash over the entire piece to add some age and character.

And when we stepped back we knew it needed a little something more. The basic black was great but it would pop so much more with a little cream accent on the molding, which then was kicked up by adding a scallop border. We used a bottle cap and traced it over and over, much like a scaled down version of our wall scallops! But instead of paint we used scrapbooking paper!  Et Cetera Symphony from Bo Bunny. And I must admit that the coincidence makes me smile...the stage for my bunnies is accented with Bo Bunny.

We have had this antique farmhouse table for over 17 years. It was one of the very first antiques we bought as a couple! It's super duper old and has been painted many times. Last week we added a fresh coat of paint to the top. It's the same paint as the trim in the room. Super White from Benjamin Moore.

We had been waiting for this piece in the two pics immediately above to arrive for a while. It had been on back order...from that ole' standby World Market! Yes, my new fave fave fave store. Well actually online shop, being that we do not have a location in the Northeast. Boo Hoo! I first found out about World Market via pinterest, and have been pinning items non stop! You may remember me mentioning a sweet cookie tin from them in a Friday Favorites. And yes, I now own that adorable tin! Cannot wait to display it once we tackle our next big goal. That goal is none other than repairing the kitchen from top to bottom! Floors and walls and even appliances.
But back to the piece above...these weather worn industrial style shelves. It is exactly what we were looking for. I had pinned SOO many like it from so many places, in all different price points. We were lucky enough to find that this also happened to be on sale! Love the mix of industrial and rustic with our sweet vintage treasures. On it we keep some of our mats for prints, and tissue for wrapping orders, and some everyday items...and also our little ipod dock. Couldn't be happier with it! It assembled easily and is sturdy.

Vintage shoe bag with a handful of essentials in the pockets...some paint brushes, a ruler, and where would you be without a naked baby at the ready?!

Sure, a whole bunch of hard work went into this space...but it never felt like a drag...because we knew the reward would be so big. We owe a great deal of thanks to Aaron's dad Skip for helping with a big chunk of the structural stuff. Aaron & Skip ripped out the old baseboard heat, laid down the subfloor, and replaced sheetrock.
Really, I know it's important to have your home comfortable...a place to unwind and recharge. But first you gotta have your workplace in line. The place where you define who you are and establish the worth you bring to the world. We are thrilled to be in here working and making. As with any new space there are def some kinks to work out...further organizing and moving things around so that they're just right.

If you have any questions about anything you see that I didn't mention just ask!

Wall colors are from Benjamin Moore:

And we blogged our "How to paint a scallop border" tutorial here.

Our flooring is from Home Depot:
