Working, building, never stopping, never sleeping, working, making, some for selling, some for keeping

Greetings from the North Pole...yes, still in full on elf mode! I had posted this pic on Instagram the other day with a caption making reference to the film Waiting For Guffman...namely, the Stool Boom song. I love everything about this movie...but Stool Boom seems to stick in my head the most. Whenever me and Aaron are working long long days, and doing similar tasks over and over again, we'll often sing a line or two from Stool Boom..."working, building, never stopping, never sleeping. working, making, some for selling, some for keeping."
I provided a little sample in the video below.

Lots and lots of gluing up, cutting out, sanding, painting, glittering. A whole lot goes into each ornament. I use an antique sugar bowl from Aaron's Mom-Mom for my clear crystal glitter.

We seriously love love love putting together each order. Seeing what each customer has chosen...what they paired together. Wrapping them all up is the best part. It's the cleanest and most delicate part of our day. We love making everything pretty for presentation.

Amid all the craziness I signed up for the Goody Goody Gift Swap...which is a Holiday gift swap for creatives. The participants list was amazing! Seriously, take a moment to just browse through and check out all of the talented folks. Even though the swap is over you can still take a peek into the worlds of so many new artists, makers, and crafters.

I went with a simple, clean, and classic wrapping for my partner. I loved the kraft paper with snowflakes pattern...and it has burlap texture. As always I added some twine...this one is red, white and pink.

I color copied some of my favorite vintage "snow day" photos, and then I bolstered them so that they'd feel just like the original photos. To bolster them I just mod podged the copies to some card stock, let them dry, and then cut them out. Then I added a light dusting of clear crystal glitter highlights to the snowdrifts and trees. To finish off the bow I added a little cream bottle brush wreath and tiny satin ball ornaments .

We were packing way into the night last night...and this morning we weighed and labeled all the packages.

And here you have our shipping department...Carlos and Jack. Carlos is Floor Supervisor, and Jack is Quality Control.

We were so happy to get out so many orders today! We worked super hard to make it happen and we are back at it right now. Tonight will be a late night. Hoping to have another big shipping day tomorrow! If you are waiting on a package, we are doing our very best! Thanks SO much!

Love from the cold, rainy, snowy NJ Shore,

Easy to craft whimsical holiday light shades you can make with ribbons, lace, and trims

This is a little Flashback Friday action for ya! Flashback to January 2010. I was asked by Romantic Homes Magazine to contribute a cute, and easy holiday craft for their "Make it" column.  I was then, and remain to this day an absolute sucker for twinkle lights around our home. And not just for holidays, but year round. I am also a collector (or hoarder) of vintage trims and ribbons...which I'm sure you are too.
This is an easy, fast, and lets just say it...cheap...little afternoon craft. We've always got a strand of these decorative lights hanging in our home and I smile very time I see them. I've made them for Christmas, Autumn, and my favorite just might be the set I did for Valentine's Day. The set that hangs over the window in our kitchen brings a colorful twinkle to the room every night, as does the set draped along our mantel. We think they'd be adorable in a baby's nursery too!

Here is what you will need:
Small strand of Christmas lights (you can find these in the wedding aisle at Michael's)
Large size plain white baking/treat cups (found in the baking aisle at Michael's)
Bits of ribbons, lace, and trims
All-purpose glue (I've used Aleene's as well as a glue gun)
Scissors
X-Acto knife

So easy...just cut desired ribbon and trim to match the circumference of the treat cup. Then apply them to the cup, gluing about every inch or so and pressing down to adhere, securing well at the seam.
Be creative...for instance, first apply a lace layer, and maybe some pom pom or some rick rack on top of the lace...making sure that you line up all of your seams so that you can later twist the shade so that the seam line is in back.

Once the shades are decorated use an X-Acto knife to cut a small X in the center of each cup bottom for the light bulb to fit through. Then pop shades over the bulbs, pushing through until the plastic base emerges through the X.

These are a great way to bring not only light, but also some fab color and texture to a festive vignette. These short strands of lights are perfect for draping over a single window or doorway. All you need are some of your favorite trims, ribbons, bits of vintage lace and rick rack...and with a little glue you can make ordinary treat cups into fabulous holiday light shades!

I hope you give these a try...and if you do...I'd love to see yours!

xo, Jenny

Our December Daily cart...because it just had to happen.

Hey friends! We thought that we'd pop in today to share a few pics of our December Daily cart. Yes you read that right. An entire wheelie cart devoted to super cute vintagey Christmasy wintery happy crafty bits. We are suckers for tiered carts over here. I've blogged them more than a few times. Our Ikea Raskog in aqua being a big fave. This fabulous vintage style metal cart happens to be from World Market.  (It also comes in a distressed white) In the past year or so we have purchased so many wonderful things from their site! It would be totally outta control if I didn't have to travel as far as Virginia to reach the location nearest to me. I speak the truth.

Of course our cart can't fit every single supply that'll go into creating pages for our December Daily album...but at the very least, we've got the basics. Vintage trims and tinsel garland, glitters, ribbons, twine, tags, stickers, vintage photos, stamps, inks, patterned papers, vintage Christmas cards, labels, and more. And for good measure we added a vintagey style pink feather tree!
We love that we can roll our cart into the living room if we find a little time away from work in the evening. Or wheel it out of the studio if we need more space for working on orders. It's a great idea for your seasonally changing craft habits...no more digging for those essential supplies...and the fresh cart full of your daily vitals will keep you inspired and motivated...knowing that when the mood strikes you'll be armed and craftily dangerous with the perfect selection and color palette of goodies.

We keep favorite tiny bits of ephemera and text, and some old photos in this sweet pink vintage Butter Mints tin, and also in the polka dotted box.

This polka dot box happens to be a vintage Storybook Doll box from the 1940's that I had found years ago. No doll included...just the box. And the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned was the presence of the gold star sticker and Santa label. Those are not my additions...but I love to imagine how they came to be on this box. Did some little girl get the doll for Christmas? Did she also get some stickers for Christmas? Or were these added years later? I love it!

Ohhhhh and we just had to share this! Kate from Scathingly Brilliant's take on our Fauxbulous Keepsake Cake project from our book! We love how well it works as a centerpiece in her sweet little winter vignette! She also blogged a lovely review of the book and is hosting a giveaway of a signed copy! So hop on over to read it, and enter to win!

Ok, that's it. Back to elf life.
ha! xo Jenny...and Aaron says hi!

It's a Snow Day!

Well it's officially winter here on the NJ Shore! It's a real deal Snow Day! Nothing close to what my parents have gotten in upstate NY, or what we have been seeing across the country. The news and Instagram are chock full of "snowpocalypse". But we've got 3 inches or so, and it's still coming down...very prettily I may add!
We are in full on Elf mode...working round the clock on orders and doing as much as we can production line style. But I must tell you...our December Daily supplies took over much of the work table in the studio (see above), so we have orders drying and piling up on every surface in every other room. Hey, it happens! What can you do? right? (those last couple lines are supposed to sound like I'm convincing myself just as much as I'm convincing you. :))
Right now with the Holiday rush there truly isn't a line between personal space and workspace anyway.

Speaking of December Daily...of course we are a bit behind, but that was expected. We've been doing our best to chip away and take a few mins here and there when we need a break from work. When you are doing something creative for yourself it's best to just do it even if you know you're going to fall behind. That is way better than not doing it at all.

Here is the cover. Those trees are vintage wrapping paper, and that house is one of our own original paintings. You can find similar houses on our Christmas sticker sheets here. Which happen to be 25% off with code: Holiday25

This is my newest vintage paper pack from my fave ephemera gal... Lisa Cook. Isn't it all absolute perfection?! I want to eat it all!

Oh... The winner for Lisa's Giveaway was chosen and announced over on Lisa's blog here. Congrats! And thanks to everyone who entered! Stay tuned...we will definitely be working with Lisa again soon!

See this? Well I see it in my sleep these days. Ornaments galore! Lots and lots and lots of them! And these will all be shipping out to happy new homes tomorrow! If you ordered one or a few we'd LOVE to see pics of them hanging on your tree! Or tied to gifts, or hanging from chandeliers...

This happens to be a tiny pile....which grew and grew as the day went on. My cutting station. Me in front of a plug in heater...cutting till my hands no longer work. #elflife

And here is Aaron adding antiquing washes to a batch of Starlet ornaments

This face! You know what this face is? It's his..."mom pick me up so I can be glued to your side in front of the heater" face.

And here is what happens when he gets his wish! ha!

Well, back to work! Just wanted to pop in and say hi, and to let you guys know what we are up to over here!

Hope you are staying warm and have been finding a few minutes to do some holiday crafting! We'd love to see your Christmas crafts and December Daily albums!

Love from the NJ Shore,
xo Jenny...and Aaron says hi!

Our Day at The Country Living Holiday Bazaar (Tarrytown NY)

Life can get very busy, but it's your job to make sure that it's not all busy. The holiday season is always a super duper busy time for me and Aaron. And don't get me wrong, we count ourselves lucky to have such a heavy workload. But every so often, especially if you're a creative type, you just need to take a break, get out there, and see some stuff. And there couldn't possibly be a better venue to see great creative and seasonal stuff than at the Country Living Holiday Bazaar.
A while back we very uncharacteristically made plans with some friends to actually leave the house! And the friends were the key to getting us out of the house. So many times if me and Aaron make plans for just the two of us, we're likely to kibosh the whole thing at the last minute because we have way too much work to do here at home. But going to the CL Bazaar was different because we made the commitment with three friends of ours weeks ago.

Despite the forecast for cold rain we just couldn't way to get up to Tarrytown, NY to do some shopping. The location of the event was barely over an hour away and we hit zero traffic on our way there. The property that it was held on was beautiful...tons of old trees, rolling hills, and stunning misty views of the Hudson River. From the entrance we took a shuttle bus down to where the Bazaar tents were. In the center of everything was the Lyndhurst Mansion...which is pretty much a 19th century castle. I saw a sign advertising tours of the mansion...but in all honesty...we weren't there to admire architecture! ha! We had holiday shopping to do!

So it turned out that the forecast of rain was really all talk and no action. We barely got a drizzle, and the temp was pretty mild. So taking a leisurely stroll down the hill from the mansion wasn't bad at all.

At the bottom of the hill was our chosen first stop. We had looked at the program to find out which tent Earth Angels was located in...and that's how we selected out first stop.

The tents were actually heated. And heated well...super warm, and not even a single draft.

So yes...first stop was Earth Angels. Which is where you'll find the awesome Jen O'Connor, who is so cool and always seems to be turned up to eleven. She hosts an amazing array of fab artists...she's every collector's favorite curator.

Just a glimpse of some Earth Angels magic.

And another glimpse.

And a mini Mudcake, just for good measure.

Loved this gal...just a fellow shopper...but oh gosh was she photograph worthy. I had to stop her and compliment her on her Iris Apfel glasses! Isn't she fabulous?

There were so many pretty vignettes throughout the show, like this one at the Findings booth...who just so happen to be from here on the Jersey Shore. We found some great things in their booth that we just had to have. You'll see them at the end of this post. ;)

Jenni Bowlin's booth was super duper FUN and Festive! This Jolly St. Nick greeted you as you entered.

And this is only a small sampling of the vintage Santa mugs that were on display.

She's got the cloches with the mostest. (that rhymes if you slur you words a bit)

We had our eye on this truck and so did our friend Marlene. But if you snooze you lose...it was long gone by the time we made our return to Jenni's booth.

Loved these little "rudolphed" photos.

The above three pics feature the holiday magic of The Painted Fern , which is owned by Jocelyn O'Gorman and her hubby. Their booth had so many beautiful pieces. Lots of victorian era imagery, collages under glass...And Jocelyn is so sweet. She had recognized me and Aaron by being a follower of this here blog. I love those small world moments. I'm not sure if Jocelyn has an etsy shop or sells her items online...I'll be sure to share a link if so.

There was a building sandwiched between two of the big shopping areas, and this is where the little cafe was. Me and Aaron took a break for lunch and ate in one of these booths that were repurposed old horse stables. Everything about the place was so festive and fun! There were not many booths at all, but just as soon as we got to the front of the line one opened up. Since the booths were huge and there was only the two of us we figured we'd wave anyone down who was looking for a seat and offer them half of our booth. Which is exactly what we did halfway through eating. We met three nice gals, shared shopping stories, talked about what we all do, what we collect, etc...

Ummmm, how about this cart in the South Porch Antiques booth?! In a perfect world we'd roll this thing straight home with us, fully loaded, as is.

More from the South Porch Antiques booth.

I love these paper wreaths. They're just so perfect. They've got the perfect amount of texture...so simple, but they bring exactly the feel I'm looking for at home.

We loved this little medical cabinet stool. We debated buying it, since we were so close to home this time we could definitely afford to transport slightly bigger stuff...we didn't have to worry about the tight squeeze in our luggage like at the CL Fair in Atlanta. But our home is still totally a work in progress and we feel like this beauty would sit on the sidelines for a pretty long time while the bulk of the painting and decorating happens. Anyway, we said we'd think on it...but after walking around and coming back we saw that it had a Sold sticker on it. Ah well...we hope that it went to a happy new home!

These brushes as artful objects were great. Loved this vignette. Aaron wanted all of them.

Loved how the person who put this booth together packaged these necklaces in vintage Christmas Ornament boxes...what a creative and festive idea.

Our friend Heidi from Georgia mentioned that the gal who owns the antique shop she works at would be at the show...and wouldn't you know...she happened to be the gal behind a booth that we loved! You may recognize this Good Eats window sign from our recap of the CL Fair in Atlanta. It was so cool to see it turn up here in Jersey! And even cooler that it belonged to our friend Heidi's friend from Atlanta. Another small world moment.

I just loved this weiner dog pillow set!

After walking back up the hill we went to the big tent at the mansion to see our new friends Stash Style. It's always great to see very cool peeps here on the East Coast! We need NJ and NY to be on the tour schedules of more people like Stash Style.

Their airstream full of perfectly curated fashions was parked right next to the big tent. Aaron was loving the vintage motorcycle and military jackets.

And he seriously kicked himself for not taking more time to look through their top notch selection of flannel.

No really...can you even handle how much style this duo has?!

These are some shots of their booth, which they had in addition to their airstream.

The t shirts were a big hit.

I seriously love everything about their esthetic. Their set up was so finely tuned...you could tell that they tour all over the country and that this is in their blood.

So now me and Aaron both have morning coffee mugs to represent some of our favorite brands...Tumbleweeds Handcraft and Stash Style. We will drink our coffee from these mugs or we will not drink coffee at all. We've got standards by jove.

And finally, after a long, New Jersey traffic filled drive home...we were able to unpack our shopping bags and get a good look at at our haul!
We love love everything! Especially our corner shelf! We'll be sure to share pics of everything once we find the perfect spots to display them.

The moral of this story???
If anything with the name Country Living comes to your area...do yourself a favor and go to it. Contact three or four friends, pile in a car, and go.

Thanks for reading!
xo Jenny & Aaron
